Annual Unemployment Rate, 2009 - 2023
Notes:
Definition and Statistical Concept
The Annual Unemployment Rate represents the percentage of the total labor force that is unemployed and actively seeking employment within Sri Lanka, averaged annually. It reflects the proportion of individuals within the labor market who are willing and able to work but do not have employment. Unemployment rates for 2009 and 2010 exclude the Northern Province of Sri Lanka. Tracking unemployment is essential for understanding labor market health and economic performance. High unemployment signals underutilization of human resources, potential social challenges, and pressures on public support systems, while low unemployment indicates a more robust labor market.
